We’ve added work from yet another talented illustrator to our collection of art prints.

We met Laura Berger at the Renegade Craft Fair in Austin, and were immediately charmed by her and her work.

Laura creates art that is sweet but not overly sugary. It is populated by idiosyncratic little creatures and people who make us smile.

We really like her use of color, which manages to be both saturated and subdued.

We just restocked our selection of plates, bowls, mugs and tumblers from the super-talented husband and wife team of Josh and Maggie Smith at dovetail.

Based in Lexington, Kentucky, they make all of their porcelain pieces in their studio and silkscreen them with their original black and white line drawings. The result is a graphic collection of pieces with tons of personality.

When Josh and Maggie filled our latest order, they let us know that they’re in the process of closing down all of their current editions and revamping their work with entirely new illustrations.

So this is your last chance to get hold of a dovetail piece featuring their current work! When we sell out, they’re gone forever—no more bicycles, poppies, chairs, or neighborhood pieces….

Kate of Flederhaus has actually been with us for some time, but we’ve only just recently gotten her work into the online shop.

Kate uses repurposed fabric, a gocco printer, and her original drawings to create her own line of prayer flags.  As she explains it: “These are inspired by Tibetan Buddhist prayer flags, which monks hang so the prayers printed on them (traditionally in Sanskrit with an image of the Buddha) can be whisked into the universe with help from rain, wind, sunshine. When we are too preoccupied to hope the best for the world at all times, the flags are a constant prayer. They’re even left unhemmed intentionally, the quicker to disperse their message. I love the idea, but wanted something more universal. I like to know what I’m praying for – but I like leaving things open to interpretation too! So I print my own flags on repurposed bedsheets with icons of the hand-made and the natural world.”

The Wicked Mint line of goods is created by Ryan Green, who lives right here in Beacon! Ryan recently moved up to Beacon from Brooklyn, and found us right away.  Her dish towels and pillows have been a hit, and we’re looking forward to adding some of her very adorable tote bags to our collection soon as well…

On deck today are two illustrators, one from the Midwest and one from the Pacific Northwest.

Sally Harless creates winsome animal illustrations under the moniker Sadly Harmless. Her elephants, giraffes, moose, narwhals, and jackalopes have charmed us completely.

Ciao Birdie is run by Barb Burwell in Portland, Oregon. Barb combines collages made of found ephemera with her own illustrations to create eclectic and lovely stationary products.

A lovely batch of Take Me Homeware ceramic goods just landed in the shop!  You can check it out here.

We were so excited to see that the gorgeous embroidered owls made by one of our artists, the talented Kate Durkin, were featured in TimeOut New York today as part of a feature on the Brooklyn Flea.  Congratulations to Kate!  And if you can’t make it to the Flea, you can always get Kate’s owls — and giraffes, whales & sailboats! — at ClayWoodandCotton.com….

Tara & Jeff, makers of the wonderful Meow Meow Tweet soaps, are performing a new art project called “In the Belly of the Bear.”  It’s a musical shadow puppet show and the performace at ARTJAIL is for kids.  So if you’re in the NYC area be sure to check them out!
